La collection photographique est née en 1977 à l’initiative des photographes toulonnaises Hélène et Rachel Théret. Elles sollicitent à l’époque de nombreux photographes (Jean-Marc Bustamante, Lucien Clergue, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Willy Ronis, Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier-Bresson…). Leur don permet ainsi la constitution d’un fonds photographique. Il s’étoffe progressivement, notamment avec l’achat de 87 photographies d’Edward Steichen, créateur de la photographie de mode.

A partir de 1982, la photographie plasticienne entre dans les collections avec des artistes tels que Marinus Boezem, Georges Rousse, Gilbert and George, Patrick Tosani, Arnulf Rainer.

The photography collection was created in 1977 on the initiative of Toulon photographers Hélène and Rachel Théret. At the time, they called on numerous photographers (Jean-Marc Bustamante, Lucien Clergue, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Willy Ronis, Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier-Bresson...). Their donation thus made it possible to form a photographic collection. It expanded gradually, in particular with the purchase of 87 photographs by Edward Steichen, creator of fashion photography.

From 1982 on, plastic photography entered the collections with artists such as Marinus Boezem, Georges Rousse, Gilbert and George, Patrick Tosani, Arnulf Rainer.

La collezione fotografica nasce nel 1977 su iniziativa dei fotografi tolonesi Hélène e Rachel Théret. I due artisti coinvolgono numerosi fotografi, tra cui Jean-Marc Bustamante, Lucien Clergue, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Willy Ronis, Robert Doisneau e Henri Cartier-Bresson. Grazie alle loro donazioni, viene costituito un fondo fotografico, che si arricchisce progressivamente, in particolare con l’acquisto di 87 lavori fotografici di Edward Steichen, creatore della fotografia di moda.

A partire dal 1982, la fotografia plastica entra nelle collezioni con artisti quali Marinus Boezem, Georges Rousse, Gilbert e George, Patrick Tosani e Arnulf Rainer.
