Le Musée d’Art figure aujourd’hui dans le paysage culturel de la ville et de l’agglomération comme un des principaux établissements culturels du Var. Son identité culturelle est caractérisée à la fois par l’importance de sa collection d’œuvres d’art ancien (peintures italienne, hollandaise, française, provençale, du XVe au début du XXe siècle) mais aussi par le large éventail des œuvres d’art contemporain (artistes régionaux, nationaux et internationaux). Au total, plus de 4500 œuvres se répartissent entre peinture, sculpture, arts graphiques, photographie, mobilier, objets ethnographiques et archéologiques.
Les expositions thématiques temporaires réalisées avec le concours d’artistes contemporains, de prêts de musées ou de collectionneurs privés, sont élaborées sous la conduite de Brigitte Gaillard, la conservatrice des musées de Toulon, en étroite relation avec le fonds du musée afin d’assurer une cohérence thématique ainsi qu’une rotation régulière des collections malgré l’absence de salle d’exposition permanente.
Enfin, depuis les années 2000, le musée d’Art axe sa politique vers une campagne de restauration des œuvres (90 dessins jamais vus du public ont pu être exposés) et de mise en valeur des collections avec la publication de guides (art ancien, art contemporain, photographie, dessin ancien et moderne).
The Art Museum is now part of the cultural landscape of the city and the metropolitan area, as one of the main cultural establishments in the Var. Its cultural identity is characterised both by the importance of its collection of early works of art (Italian, Dutch, French, Provençal, Italian and Dutch paintings from the 15th to the early 20th century) and by the wide range of contemporary works of art (regional, national and international artists). In total, more than 4500 works are divided between painting, sculpture, graphic arts, photography, furniture, ethnographic and archaeological objects.
Temporary thematic exhibitions organised with the cooperation of contemporary artists, museum loans or private collectors, are developed under the direction of Brigitte Gaillard, the curator of the Toulon museums, in close collaboration with the museum’s collection in order to ensure thematic coherence and regular rotation of the collections despite the absence of a permanent exhibition room.
Lastly, since the 2000s, the Musée d’Art has directed its policy towards a campaign to restore the works (enabling 90 drawings never seen by the public to be exhibited) and to enhance the collections with the publication of guides (ancient art, contemporary art, photography, ancient and modern drawing).
Oggi il Museo d’Arte figura nel panorama culturale della città di Tolone e del suo conglomerato come uno dei principali istituti culturali del dipartimento del Var. La sua identità culturale è caratterizzata dall’importante collezione di opere d’arte antica (dipinti italiani, olandesi, provenzali, dal XV secolo all’inizio del XX secolo) e dal ricco repertorio di opere d’arte contemporanea (artisti regionali, nazionali e internazionali). In totale, il museo accoglie oltre 4.500 opere tra dipinti, sculture, arti grafiche, fotografia, arredamento, oggetti etnografici e archeologici.
Le esposizioni tematiche temporanee, realizzate in collaborazione con artisti contemporanei, prestiti di musei e collezionisti privati, sono curate da Brigitte Gaillard, direttrice dei musei di Tolone, in coordinamento con i fondi del museo. L’obiettivo è garantire la coerenza tematica e la rotazione periodica delle collezioni, in mancanza di una sala di esposizione permanente.
Dal 2000, il Museo d’Arte ha avviato una campagna di restauro delle opere (esponendo 90 disegni mai visti dal pubblico) e valorizzazione delle collezioni, inclusa la pubblicazione di guide (arte antica, arte contemporanea, fotografia, disegno antico e disegno moderno).
