L’art figuratif s’oppose à l’Art abstrait qui ne représente pas le monde visible, sensible (réel ou imaginaire) ; qui utilise la matière, la ligne, les formes, la couleur pour elles-mêmes.
In art, figuration is the act of representing something from the real or imaginary in a recognisable way, by graphic means. Figurative art is opposed to Abstract art, which does not represent the visible, sensitive world (real or imaginary) ; which uses matter, line, shapes, colour for their own sake.
